Time is flying by here so fast and I’m not sure I like it!
This week has been pretty wet and muddy as there was a mini cyclone so on Monday school was cancelled as we couldn’t get there/ leave the house! In the afternoon it wasn’t as windy and rainy so we were able to play some team sports of rugby netball which turned into a giant mud fight/ slip and slide! It’s very easy for the boys to play sports in the village but for us girls we have to be wearing a Sulu at all times – a sarong essentially over our long shorts so it’s very very warm and restricting!
Covered in mud we were allowed to walk to a nearby river outside village grounds where we are allowed to swim, fully clothed in sulus of course! Under no circumstances can we ever get our shoulders or knees out, not even in the sea!
Tuesday and Wednesday my class has their LANA exams which are the Fijian version of SATS and then Thursday I was able to run the class in the morning and do a fun arts and crafts session. The afternoon was school clean up aka get everyone to garden! Was not bad as the sun was out and the school now looks a lot nicer as we are hosting a huge netball and rugby tournament to see who gets to represent our island!
Friday we didn’t go to school again and instead went farming which was hilarious as it was up a very steep and muddy hill so it was more a game of dominos with everyone slipping and sliding all over the place!
This weekend was very much a nothing one as prawn fishing was cancelled because the river was too high from the rain and then crab hunting was cancelled because of cyclone damage!
Only 3 full weeks left here which is crazy!
