A nice stop over to break up the distance between laos and Chiang Mai but I’m not sure I’d return.
Chiang Rai as a city has nothing…and it was dead…there was no one in the whole city it was so bizzar! At night a few people came out of the word work for the night market but during the day there is no one.
We rented bikes trying to find the beach one day, but after 2 hours of cycling we had exited the city on every road possible but just somehow missed the beach so gave up!
The temples however, made Chiang Rai worth visiting. The infamous white temple which represents hell was one of the strangest places I’ve ever been! From a far it looks all serene but up close there is a bridge made of hands and inside the temples paintings of a plane hitting the twin towers and Star Wars… so bizzar
The other temple we visited was the blue temple which is newly opened and designed by the student of the white temple and is equally interesting!
Thailand is thankfully slightly cheaper than laos and Cambodia, a welcome relief!
