Siem Reap, Cambodia

My last stop on my tour of Cambodia was Siem Reap, most famously known for Angkor Wat.

The city itself is very bizzar. By day there is nothing to do, besides Angkor Wat, but at night the city comes alive. It has the most humongous night market and pub street and is really fun in comparison to the day.

Of course I bought more unnecessary things at the market including my 3rd painting. I’m going to need a big house when I come home to hang them all in!

Angkor Wat was unbelievable and made it all so worth coming to Siem Reap. I got up at 4am to get to Angkor Wat for sunrise and beat the humongous tour groups. Although most of my photos look like I was the only one there, I can assure you that there were hundreds of thousands of us and it gets busier!

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time in Cambodia all though I much preferred Vietnam! The country is still recovering from the effects of the Khmer Rouge with most of the country still living in severe poverty. This means that stealing is very common here and unfortunately it happened to my friend in a tuk tuk which is quite scary. The country also has low levels of sanitation and often it feels slightly dirty – especially my hostel in Phnom Penh which gave me ringworm! Such fun!

Flying to laos this afternoon as I didn’t fancy the 36 hour bus! Time for a new country!
