With is sweeping white beaches and an abundance of temples, Thailand offers something for everyone so it’s no wonder that it is the main destination for those seeking the sun in south east Asia.
I have heard and read about the multitude of scams which operate in Thailand and that is a worry as a single traveller that I will fall for one of these scams by purely thinking that someone is trying to help me. It may not even be obvious that you are being swindled out of your money as these people do it for a living – whether it be regarding visas, hire of motorbikes or tuk tuk rides, however, as with most things as long as you keep your witts about you and stand your ground then I’m sure I’ll be fine.
I plan on entering this extremely cultural country from the North, with my first top being the White Temples in Chiang Rai. This elaborate temple once housed the Jade emerald Buddha is particularly spectacular.
Next stop – Chiang Mai, one of Thailand’s most well known locations and most excitingly for me WHERE THE ELEPHANT SANCTUARY IS!! I have done a lot of research on this matter in anticipation of my trip as there are many tourist traps in relation to elephant trips. Therefore, it is very important to me that I pick a sanctuary that treats the elephants right and doesn’t leave them neglected, all for the sake of the tourists entertainment.
Moving briskly on to Bangkok, I’m very interested to see what this bustling capital has to offer! This vibrant city appears to have an array of different cultures, cuisines and experiences – anyone for a deep fried scorpion??
Juxtaposed from busy Bangkok I plan on spending the remainder of my time down in the southern islands of Thailand – Ko Pha Ngan, Ko Samui, Krabi, Phi Phi islands and last but not least Phuket. Being able to spend some time relaxing on beautiful beaches will be just what I need after two busy months travelling round Asia.
Returning to the title of the blog, I am sure that Thailand will truly be a beauty to behold – who can really resist the dramatic landscape and golden shores?
NEXT STOP INDONESIA!
